Derivación submental en el manejo de la vía aérea de pacientes con trauma maxilofacial o cirugía ortognática
Main Article Content
Abstract
The secure an airway in any surgery is the key to patient safety. The management of the airway in the patients with severe fractures of the facial massif or elective procedures such as orthognathic surgery where required osteotomies to maxillofacial bones, constitute a challenge to the oral surgeon and anesthesiologist when methods nasotracheal and orotracheal intubation are contraindicated. The endotracheal intubation via submental or retromolar are a useful alternative for these patients, enable intermaxillary fixation during surgery, obtaining an optimal result in the reduction and fixation of fractures or osteotomies of the facial bones. These techniques allow the establishment of a secure airway with the indications, contraindications and special considerations, as well as being simple, fast and easy to learn.
