Policies Regarding Author Order and the Number of Authors

Once the work has been submitted, it will not be possible—under any circumstances—to make changes to the order or number of authors. Therefore, all matters related to authorship must be resolved before the initial submission of the manuscript.

Responsibility for Content

Upon submission of the manuscript, it is assumed that each and every author has had full access to all study data and assumes full and public responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the data analysis. For this reason, the Revista de Sanidad Militar disclaims any responsibility for potential conflicts arising from the authorship of the works it publishes.

On the Role of Authors and Co-authors

The Revista de Sanidad Militar follows the requirements established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding authorship:

  • Only those individuals who have intellectually contributed to the development of the work should appear on the author list.

  • Assisting in data collection or participating in a specific technique are not, in themselves, sufficient criteria to be listed as an author. In general, to be listed as an author, the following requirements must be met:

    • Have participated in the conception and design, acquisition of data, and analysis and interpretation of the data for the study that resulted in the article in question.

    • Have participated in the drafting of the text and its subsequent revisions.

    • Have approved the final version to be published.

    • Have agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the study in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the study are appropriately investigated and resolved.

  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors meet authorship requirements, and each of them commits to remaining in contact with the corresponding author.

  • Each and every author must agree that the corresponding author will be solely responsible for submitting the manuscript to the journal and for communication with the editorial team.

  • Upon submitting a manuscript, each author indicates that they have had full access to all data in the study and assumes full and public responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the data analysis.

  • Once the work has been submitted, it will not be possible to make changes to the order or number of authors; therefore, all matters related to authorship must be resolved before the initial submission of the manuscript.

  • The number of authors will depend on the type of manuscript submitted. For original articles and review articles, the maximum number of authors shall be eight. Only in the case of multicenter studies will the maximum number of authors be twelve, provided it is justified according to the scope of the study.

  • In the case of collective authorship, the name of the editors or individuals responsible for the work shall be included, followed by "and the [name] group" when all members of the group are considered co-authors. If the group name is to be included even though not all members are considered co-authors, the responsible authors shall be mentioned, followed by "on behalf of the [name] group" or "for the [name] group." In any case, the names and institutions of the group members shall be included in an appendix at the end of the manuscript.

  • The authors shall attest and declare that they have read and approved the manuscript and that the requirements for authorship have been met.

  • The journal disclaims any responsibility for potential conflicts arising from the authorship of the works it publishes.
