Resumen
El término crosslinking puede traducirse como "enlaces cruzados", y consiste en una fotopolimerización de las fibras estromales mediante riboflavina y rayos ultravioleta tipo A (UVA), que forma nuevos enlaces covalentes entre las láminas de colágeno del estroma corneal, incrementando su rigidez hasta un 70%. El lumicano es una proteína que pertenece al grupo de los llamados pequeños proteoglucanos ricos en leucina y tiene como función entre otras regular el diámetro de las fibras de colágeno y el espacio interfibrilar.
